DESCRIPTION: France, an unusual early 19th century gilt and patinated bronze figural clock, the oval base with four winged lion masks above paw feet, anthemion and palmette mounts, with central Medusa mask, and featuring two figures in a small sailboat, the rear with female figure, her left hand on the mast, and right hand holding what may be a torch, the bow with figure of cupid, his right hand raised, his left holding an anchor, the roman numeral white enamel dialmounted to tyhe sail, fancy gilt hands, two train pendule de Paris movement with silk thread suspension, striking on a bell, with associated oval base and dome
CONDITION: gilding with minor losses, patination restored, inside of base with an added sheet metal bottom to which the upper section is attached, torch replaced, nut holding the clock case to the mast missing, rope to which anchor is attached broken, ornament at top of mast replaced, movement and dial replaced, pendulum replaced, dial with hairlines and small chip. bezel glass chipped, ticks and strikes, dome dimensions listed. Movement is stamped "JAPY FRERE MEDAILLE OR" [sic] and "HOTTOT A PARIS"
